Day 1
Arrival in Roses. Accommodation with host families / hotel. Distribution and dinner.
Day 2
Breakfast. Excursion to Figueres. Entry and guided tour of the Dalí Museum. Although known for his surrealist universe, Salvador Dalí also experienced key moments in Figueres. During his youth, he served in the imposing Sant Ferran Castle, which years later became the setting for the tragedy of exile. The museum is an immersion into the genius's mind, but also a reflection of the turbulent times he lived through. Picnic lunch. Air-raid shelter at Plaça del Gra and Rambla of Figueres. In the heart of the city, these sites speak of the bombings suffered during the Civil War. The shelter, dug to protect the population, is a moving testimony of life under bombs. The Rambla, the lifeblood of Figueres, was also a scene of chaos in the Republic’s final days. Visit to Sant Ferran Castle, which at the end of the war became a prison for Republican soldiers and a transit point for many exiles. Walking along its walls is to retrace one of the last bastions of Republican resistance.
Day 3
Breakfast. Exile Memorial Museum (MUME), La Jonquera. This museum is a vital memory space to understand the Retirada: the exodus of nearly half a million Republicans to France in 1939. Through documents, photographs, and personal objects, visitors relive the human drama of exile and its impact on European history. Picnic lunch. Exile route in La Vajol. The last refuge of the Republican Government before crossing the border. Here, places like Coll de Lli, the Negrín mine (where artworks from the Prado Museum were hidden), and the Minister’s House help reconstruct the path taken by leaders and thousands of exiles. A deeply emotional journey along historic trails.
Day 4
Breakfast. Collioure, Tomb of Antonio Machado and Foundation.
The great Republican poet crossed the border in 1939, sick and defeated, with his mother. He died a few days later in exile, in Collioure, where his tomb has become a site of literary and political pilgrimage. The visit pays tribute to intellectual commitment and the pain of exile. Picnic lunch. Return home.
